  Rhinoplasty Results

Rhinoplasty results can be very dramatic or subtle depending on how much work is being performed. Most people's goals for a rhinoplasty involve having a natural looking nose to fit their bone structure and features because their previous nose shape was not an optimal fit prior to the cosmetic surgical procedure. Patients should not be alarmed when viewing their noses immediately after the rhinoplasty procedure because it takes time for the swelling and bruising to subside and for the final surgical results to show. Recovery time varies from patient to patient based on individual factors and healing time, but patients should expect to rest and limit their regular activities for the first couple days following the rhinoplasty.

The rhinoplasty surgeon will give each patient post-operative instruction and will continue to follow up with the patient to monitor the healing process. Any bruising and discoloration will be the worst directly after the procedure and will begin to disappear after that. The swelling will probably take longer than the bruising and discoloration level to heal, and some specific swelling can take up to a few months to completely reach its final level but is not obvious to other people.

Most rhinoplasty patients can resume their normal activities within a month's time of the procedure, but there are still some activities that need to be restricted. Shielding your nose from direct sunlight will allow the healing process to continue without complications because the area will be especially sensitive after surgery. Noticeable rhinoplasty results will appear within weeks of the procedure and look natural, but patients should be aware that the healing time is a gradual process that can take up to an entire year to see the end results.

The rhinoplasty surgeon will want to conduct follow up visits at certain points of the healing process after the rhinoplasty surgery. These visits will be able to alert the surgeon if the healing process is continuing without complications and with the results that the rhinoplasty patient desired. In some instances, a patient may find that a rhinoplasty touchup will can improve the results to an even closer desired look. Excluding the normal aging process, the rhinoplasty is usually permanent. In the future, some patients will benefit from having another cosmetic surgery procedure to better enhance the rest of their face with their new nose.

What does Rhinoplasty Mean?

Plastic surgery is derived from the Greek word plastikos, meaning to mold or shape. Rhinoplasty is the plastic surgery procedure that reshapes the nose, 'rhino' being Greek for nose.

Rhinoplasty Popular
Among Men

In 2000, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top cosmetic surgery procedure performed on men was nose reshaping, third for women following liposuction and eyelid surgery. Cosmetic surgery procedures for men are becoming increasingly more popular as the overall acceptance towards these aesthetic surgeries, including rhinoplasty grows. There were over one million men in 2000 that underwent a cosmetic surgery procedure, with over 150,000 men choosing rhinoplasty.
